Frozen Pipe Prevention Tips

Winter weather is fast approaching! Do you know all the tips and tricks of protecting pipes from freezing? Frozen pipes are often those exposed to the cold weather, such as those that are located outside of your home. These cold areas such as basements, attics, garages. Here are some frozen pipe prevention tips to help you out;
- Be Prepared. Check you foundation, and locate all vents. Place foam insulation to block off those vents leading to crawlspace spaces.
- When weather is extremely cold, let water drip form faucets that may come from exposed pipes.
- Open kitchen cabinets to let warm air circulate around plumbing lines.
- Keep your heat set to the same temperature both day and night. In extreme cold weather you may want to raise the temperature in the home slightly.
- In the worst case, turn off the main water valve while the house is unoccupied or while you sleep. This will ensure that if a pipe freezes and breaks, the water loss will be limited only to the water contained within the pipe.
