Do You Have a Fire Escape Plan?
10/2/2019 (Permalink)
Some disasters we just don't want to think about, but planing and thinking ahead could possibly save your life and the lives of your family.
Fire can spread rapidly through your home, leaving you as little as one or two minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds. A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Make sure to install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, level and outside each separate sleeping area. Bring everyone in your household together and make a plan. Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes. Be sure to mark two ways out of each room, including windows and doors.
Here are some helpful tips to make every second count!
- Draw a map of your home, marking 2 exits from each room and a path to the outside from each exit.
- Teach children how to escape on their own in case you can not help them.
- Practice your home fire drill twice a year, with practicing different ways out.
- Make sure the number of your home is clearly marked and easy for the fire department to find.
- Once you get outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building.
Fires are dangerous and we here at SERVPRO of Rolla want to make sure you and your family are prepared!
