Summer is approaching, and in Missouri, heat can can come on very quick and fierce. It is never to early to consider safety precautions for extreme heat.
Extreme heat can cause cramps, swelling, and fainting. Heat waves kill more Americans than other natural disasters such as floods, lightning, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Young children and adults over the age of 65 are most likely to experience heat exhaustion or other heat-related illness. A few of the best thing to protect yourself during extreme heat is to stay out of the sun; use a fan or sit in air conditioning; take a cold shower or bath and avoid physical activity and being outside. Make sure that you always drink lots of water for this is you body's air conditioning!
