Preparing a meal for company? Don't leave your kitchen unattended while entertaining your guest. Always stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling or using an open flame.

 If you have a fire here are some DO:

 * Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpet.

* Keep hands clean. Soot on hand can further soil upholstery, walls and woodwork.

* Place dry, colorfast towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery and carpet traffic areas.

* If electricity is off, empty freezer and refrigerator completely and prop doors open to help prevent odor.

Most importantly make sure your family and family pets are safe and out of the house.
